An Excellent New App

If you have any room on your phone, and enjoy tracking foods to ensure you’re making the healthiest choices, then you will definitely find a good use for this app:

Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen (Get it for Apple phones here)

This free app is available for both Apple and Android. The purpose of this app is to help you track the foods most vital to our daily diets for our health. It also helps to ensure you are eating the proper serving sizes to provide benefits to our body, including disease prevention and cell regeneration.

I’ve learned that I definitely do not eat enough beans and legumes. I’m lucky to include them once a day, let alone THREE servings per day. I’m glad the app has made me more aware of portions and serving sizes.

Each component of the daily dozen includes a list of the best foods that fit into that category, and the proper education as to what constitutes a “serving size.” I often forget the exact measurements, so it is handy to have this guide to turn to when needed.

It reminds me of the “food mover system” by Richard Simmons that my mom had when I was little, except located conveniently on your phone. I always loved learning about portion sizes, and the food mover was fun to play with, and one of the first tools like it that I had seen. I’ve also tried journaling through different apps on my phone, but it always ended up being too much work. I like the convenience of just being able to check off what you need. It gives you an excellent idea of where you can strengthen your diet for your health.

Let me know if you try it out!
